Psalms 97; 2; 16; 62

97
1 The Lord reigneth; let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of isles be glad thereof.

2 Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

3 A fire goeth before him, and burneth up his enemies round about.

4 His lightnings enlightened the world: the earth saw, and trembled.

5 The hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth.

6 The heavens declare his righteousness, and all the people see his glory.

7 Confounded be all they that serve graven images, that boast themselves of idols: worship him, all ye gods.

8 Zion heard, and was glad; and the daughters of Judah rejoiced because of thy judgments, O Lord.

9 For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.

10 Ye that love the Lord, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.

11 Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

12 Rejoice in the Lord, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

2
1 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

16 Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.

2 O my soul, thou hast said unto the Lord, Thou art my Lord: my goodness extendeth not to thee;

3 But to the saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent, in whom is all my delight.

4 Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips.

5 The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.

6 The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.

8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.

9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

62 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.

2 He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

3 How long will ye imagine mischief against a man? ye shall be slain all of you: as a bowing wall shall ye be, and as a tottering fence.

4 They only consult to cast him down from his excellency: they delight in lies: they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.

6 He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved.

7 In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

8 Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.

9 Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie: to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

10 Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

11 God hath spoken once; twice have I heard this; that power belongeth unto God.

12 Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.

1 Samuel 2:27-36

27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

30 Wherefore the Lord God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the Lord saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

Acts 2:22-36

22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

23 Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

24 Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

25 For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

36 Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

Luke 20:41-21:4

41 And he said unto them, How say they that Christ is David's son?

42 And David himself saith in the book of Psalms, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

43 Till I make thine enemies thy footstool.

44 David therefore calleth him Lord, how is he then his son?

45 Then in the audience of all the people he said unto his disciples,

46 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

47 Which devour widows' houses, and for a shew make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

21 And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury.

2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

3 And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:

4 For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had.

Psalms 89; 147; 1; 33

89
1 I will sing of the mercies of the Lord for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

2 For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.

3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,

4 Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.

5 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?

7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

8 O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?

9 Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

10 Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.

11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: as for the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

12 The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.

13 Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

14 Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

15 Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O Lord, in the light of thy countenance.

16 In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.

17 For thou art the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.

18 For the Lord is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king.

19 Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

21 With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.

22 The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

23 And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.

24 But my faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.

25 I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.

26 He shall cry unto me, Thou art my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.

27 Also I will make him my firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.

28 My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

29 His seed also will I make to endure for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.

30 If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;

31 If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;

32 Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.

33 Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

34 My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

35 Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.

36 His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.

37 It shall be established for ever as the moon, and as a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.

38 But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

39 Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

40 Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.

41 All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.

42 Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

43 Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.

44 Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.

45 The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.

46 How long, Lord? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?

47 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?

48 What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.

49 Lord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, which thou swarest unto David in thy truth?

50 Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; how I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty people;

51 Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O Lord; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

52 Blessed be the Lord for evermore. Amen, and Amen.

147
1 Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely.

2 The Lord doth build up Jerusalem: he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.

3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.

4 He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

5 Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite.

6 The Lord lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground.

7 Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God:

8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.

9 He giveth to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

10 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.

11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

12 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem; praise thy God, O Zion.

13 For he hath strengthened the bars of thy gates; he hath blessed thy children within thee.

14 He maketh peace in thy borders, and filleth thee with the finest of the wheat.

15 He sendeth forth his commandment upon earth: his word runneth very swiftly.

16 He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.

17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?

18 He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.

19 He sheweth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments unto Israel.

20 He hath not dealt so with any nation: and as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord.

1
1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

33
1 Rejoice in the Lord, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.

2 Praise the Lord with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.

3 Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.

4 For the word of the Lord is right; and all his works are done in truth.

5 He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

6 By the word of the Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

7 He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.

8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

9 For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.

10 The Lord bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.

11 The counsel of the Lord standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

13 The Lord looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.

14 From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.

15 He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.

16 There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.

17 An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.

18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;

19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: he is our help and our shield.

21 For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.

22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

1 Samuel 2:12-26

12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the Lord.

13 And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the Lord: for men abhorred the offering of the Lord.

18 But Samuel ministered before the Lord, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The Lord give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the Lord. And they went unto their own home.

21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.

22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the Lord's people to transgress.

25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the Lord, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the Lord would slay them.

26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the Lord, and also with men.

Acts 2:1-21

2
1 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13 Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Luke 20:27-40

27 Then came to him certain of the Sadducees, which deny that there is any resurrection; and they asked him,

28 Saying, Master, Moses wrote unto us, If any man's brother die, having a wife, and he die without children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.

29 There were therefore seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and died without children.

30 And the second took her to wife, and he died childless.

31 And the third took her; and in like manner the seven also: and they left no children, and died.

32 Last of all the woman died also.

33 Therefore in the resurrection whose wife of them is she? for seven had her to wife.

34 And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage:

35 But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage:

36 Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.

37 Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.

38 For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.

39 Then certain of the scribes answering said, Master, thou hast well said.

40 And after that they durst not ask him any question at all.

Quote:
Vince Flynn (1966 to 19-Jun-2013) was an American author of political thriller novels. He lived with his wife and three children in the Twin Cities. He was a frequent guest on the Glenn Beck program on the Fox News Channel. He also served as a story consultant for the fifth season of the 24 television series. He passed away on June 19, 2013, after a three-year battle with prostate cancer.

Vince Flynn was a graduate of Saint Thomas Academy (1984) and the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) (1989). Post graduation, Flynn went to work for Kraft Foods as an account and sales marketing specialist. In 1991, he left Kraft to pursue a career as an aviator with the United States Marine Corps. One week before leaving for Officer Candidate School, he was medically disqualified from the Marine Aviation Program.

In an effort to overcome the difficulties of dyslexia, Flynn forced himself into a daily writing and reading regimen. Quotes Flynn: "I started reading everything I could get my hands on, Hemingway, Ludlum, Clancy, Tolkien, Vidal. I read fiction, nonfiction, anything, but I especially loved espionage."

His newfound interest in such novels motivated him to begin work on a novel of his own. While employed as a bartender in the St. Paul area, he completed his first book, Term Limits, which he then self-published.[2] "I had just finished reading The Government Racket: Washington Waste from A to Z, by Martin L. Gross. It is without a doubt the most disheartening and enlightening book about politics that I've ever read. I was out jogging one day wondering what it would take to really change Washington, when my thoughts turned to a friend who had been shot and killed in Washington, D.C., several summers earlier. As I continued running, a story started to unfold."

Pocket Books published the hardcover edition of Term Limits in 1998, and the mass market paperback of Term Limits in 1999, which spent several weeks on The New York Times bestseller list.[citation needed]

Subsequent works, including Flynn's 1999 novel, Transfer of Power, his 2000 novel The Third Option and his 2001 novel Separation of Power, also appeared on the New York Times bestseller list, with Separation of Power reaching as high as #7.

Flynn's fifth novel, Executive Power, was published in hardcover by Atria Books in May 2003, followed by his sixth novel Memorial Day in 2004, his seventh novel Consent To Kill in October 2005, his eighth novel Act Of Treason in October 2006, his ninth novel Protect And Defend in 2007 and his tenth novel Extreme Measures in 2008.

With the exception of his first novel Term Limits, his works centered around counter-terrorism agent Mitch Rapp. His 2008 release, Extreme Measures became the ninth novel in that increasingly popular series.

The level of specific detail displayed in the Mitch Rapp series at one point came under the scrutiny of the Department Of Energy. His sixth novel Memorial Day actually garnered a security review by the DOE due to concerns that the book contained classified material surrounding nuclear security. This security review was also mentioned in internal memos by the FBI and Secret Service.

Flynn wrote six New York Times bestsellers for Atria Books, and had a contract for four more. He remembered deciding between following the path that was the most uncomfortable — continuing with what looked to be a promising career as a commercial real estate leasing agent — or take a big risk and start a new career as a writer. “I look back on it now and I couldn’t be happier with my decision, but at the time I remember a lot of people thought I was nuts."

In February 2008, Flynn agreed on film and book projects with CBS Corporation units CBS Films and Simon & Schuster/Atria Books. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is negotiating to produce Mitch Rapp films. Atria Books got worldwide rights to four books by the author.

In August 2010, Flynn signed a two-book deal for a new series that he would have co-written with Brian Haig, a retired Army Lt. Colonel.

On February 1, 2011, in his fan newsletter, Flynn announced that he was being treated for Stage III prostate cancer.

On June 19, 2013, at 1:15 am, Flynn died, surrounded by family and friends, after losing his battle with cancer.

Bibliography

Mitch Rapp Series

Mitch Rapp, as portrayed by the author, is an under-cover CIA counter-terrorism agent. The primary focus of the character is thwarting Muslim terrorist attacks on the United States and he is presented as an aggressive operative who is willing to take measures that are more extreme than might be considered commonly acceptable. His constant frustration with procedures and red tape are a major theme throughout the entire series. Profanity and adult themes are common, so the series is recommended for mature audiences.

Family: Country singer Slim Whitman dies at age 90

Quote:
Ottis Dewey Whitman, Jr. (January 20, 1923 or 1924 – June 19, 2013), known professionally as Slim Whitman, was an American country music and western music singer/songwriter and instrumentalist known for his yodeling abilities and his smooth high octave falsetto. He sold in excess of 120 million records.

He was consistently more popular throughout Europe, and in particular Britain, than in his native America, especially with his covers of pop standards, movie songs, love songs, folk tunes and gospel melodic hymns. His 1955 hit single "Rose Marie" held the Guinness World Record for the longest time at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart until Bryan Adams broke the record in 1991 after 36 years. In the U.S., his "Indian Love Call" (1952) and "Secret Love" (1953) reached number 2 on the Billboard country chart. Whitman had a string of hits from the mid-1960s and into the 1970s and became known to a new generation of fans through television direct marketing in the 1980s. Throughout the 1990s and into the 21st century, he continued to tour extensively around the world and release new material, and he was featured on the soundtrack of the 1996 film Mars Attacks!. His last album, Twilight on the Trail, was released in 2010.

Whitman was born in Tampa, Florida, as Ottis Dewey Whitman, Jr. on January 20, 1923 or 1924. Growing up, he liked the country music of Jimmie Rodgers and songs of Gene Autry, but he did not embark on a musical career of his own until the end of World War II, after he had served in the South Pacific with the United States Navy.

Whitman, a self-taught left-handed guitarist, was right-handed, but he had lost almost all of the second finger on his left hand in an accident. He worked at a Tampa shipyard while developing a musical career, eventually performing with a band known as the Variety Rhythm Boys. Whitman's first big break came when talent manager "Colonel" Thomas Parker heard him singing on the radio and offered to represent him. Signed with RCA Records, he was billed as "the cowboy singer Slim Whitman" and released his first single in 1948. He toured and sang at a variety of venues, including on the radio show Louisiana Hayride.

At first, he was not able to make a living from music and kept a part-time job. That changed in the early 1950s after he recorded a version of the Bob Nolan hit Love Song of the Waterfall, which made it into the country music top 10. His next single, "Indian Love Call," was even more successful, reaching number 2.

A yodeller, Whitman avoided the "down on yer luck buried in booze" songs, preferring instead to sing laid-back romantic melodies about simple life and love. Critics dubbed his style "countrypolitan," owing to its fusion of country music and a more sophisticated crooning vocal style. Although he recorded many western tunes, love and romance songs figured prominently in his repertoire.

In 1955 in the United Kingdom, he had a No.1 hit on the pop music charts with "Rose Marie." With 11 weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart, the song set a record that lasted for 36 years. Soon after, Whitman was invited to join the Grand Ole Opry, and in 1957, along with other musical stars, he appeared in the film musical Jamboree. Despite this exposure, he never achieved the level of stardom in the United States that he did in Britain, where he had a number of other hits during the 1950s and 1960s. Throughout the early 1970s, he continued to record and was a guest on Wolfman Jack's television show The Midnight Special. At the time, Whitman's recording efforts were yielding only minor hits.

In 1979, Whitman produced a TV commercial to support Suffolk Marketing's release of a greatest hits compilation titled All My Best, which went on to be the best-selling TV-marketed record in music history, with almost 1.5 million units sold. Just For You (also under the Suffolk umbrella), followed in 1980, with a commercial that claimed Whitman "was number one in England longer than Elvis and The Beatles." The Best followed in 1982, with Whitman concluding his TV marketing with Best Loved Favorites in 1989 and 20 Precious Memories in 1991.

The TV albums made Whitman (briefly) a household name in America for the first time in his career, resulting in everything from a first-time appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson to Whitman being spoofed in a comic skit on SCTV with him (played by Joe Flaherty) starring in the Che-like male lead in an Evita-like Broadway musical on the life of Indira Gandhi. More importantly, the TV albums gave him a brief resurgence in mainstream country music with new album releases on major labels and a few new singles making the country chart. During this time he toured Europe and Australia with moderate success.

In late January 2008, a false rumour of his death spread through the Internet, believed to have been started by an erroneous report posted on the Web site of the Nashville Tennessean newspaper. Country singer George Hamilton IV even dedicated and sang a hymn in Whitman's honor at a concert appearance.

In 2010, Whitman released the album, "Twilight on the Trail," his first new studio LP in 26 years.

After 1957 Whitman lived at Woodpecker Paradise, in Middleburg, Florida, a suburb of Jacksonville.

Personal life

Whitman's wife of 67 years, Alma "Jerry" Crist Whitman, was a songwriter and embroiderer as well as the daughter of a church minister. She died in 2009 as a result from complications arising from kidney failure. They had a daughter Sharon, and a son Byron K. Whitman, who is also a performer and who toured and recorded with Whitman on numerous occasions.

Death

Whitman's son-in-law said[11] Slim Whitman died of heart failure on June 19, 2013 surrounded by family at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Florida. He was 90.

Legacy

For his contribution to the recording industry, Slim Whitman was given the accolade of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1709 Vine Street. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Walkway of Stars in 1968.

The late pop singer Michael Jackson cited Whitman as one of his ten favorite vocalists.[14] Beatle George Harrison cited Whitman as an early influence: "The first person I ever saw playing a guitar was Slim Whitman, either a photo of him in a magazine or live on television. Guitars were definitely coming in."[15] Paul McCartney credited a poster of Whitman with giving him the idea of playing his guitar left-handed with his guitar strung the opposite way to a right-handed player's.

The 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind features Whitman's rendition of "Love Song of the Waterfall" playing in the tollbooths as the cars speed through, chasing three alien spaceships.

Daniel Johnston mentions "singing like Slim Whitman" in his song "Wild West Virginia" from his 1981 album "Songs of Pain."

The 1996 film Mars Attacks! features Whitman's rendition of "Indian Love Call" as a weapon against alien invaders.

In 2003, Rob Zombie used Whitman's song "I Remember You" in his movie directorial debut in House of 1000 Corpses.
In the 2007 film Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Dewey mentions Whitman in response to his wife when she asks him to name one musician who ever made any money.

Psalms 42; 146; 102; 133

42
1 As the hart
panteth
after the water brooks,
so panteth
my soul
after thee, O God.

2 My soul
thirsteth
for God,
for the living God:
when shall I come
and appear
before God?

3 My tears
have been my meat
day
and night,
while they continually say unto me,
Where is thy God?

4 When I remember
these things,
I pour out my soul
in me:
for I had gone
with the multitude,
I went with them
to the house of God,
with the voice of joy
and praise,
with a multitude
that kept holyday.

5 Why art thou cast down,
O my soul?
and why art thou disquieted
in me?
hope thou in God:
for I shall yet praise him
for the help
of his countenance.

6 O my God,
my soul is cast down
within me:
therefore will I remember thee
from the land of Jordan,
and of the Hermonites,
from the hill Mizar.

7 Deep
calleth unto deep
at the noise
of thy waterspouts:
all thy waves
and thy billows
are gone over me.

8 Yet the Lord
will command
his lovingkindness
in the day time,
and in the night
his song
shall be with me,
and my prayer
unto the God
of my life.

9 I will say unto God
my rock,
Why
hast thou forgotten me?
why
go I mourning
because of the oppression
of the enemy?

10 As with a sword
in my bones,
mine enemies
reproach me;
while they say daily unto me,
Where is thy God?

11 Why art thou cast down,
O my soul?
and why art thou disquieted
within me?
hope thou in God:
for I shall yet praise him,
who is the health
of my countenance,
and my God.

146
1 Praise ye the Lord.
Praise the Lord,
O my soul.

2 While I live will
I praise the Lord:
I will sing praises
unto my God
while I have any being.

3 Put not your trust
in princes,
nor in the son of man,
in whom
there is no help.

4 His breath
goeth forth,
he returneth to his earth;
in that very day
his thoughts perish.

5 Happy is he
that hath the God of Jacob
for his help,
whose hope
is in the Lord his God:

6 Which made
heaven, and earth,
the sea,
and all that therein is:
which keepeth truth
for ever:

7 Which executeth judgment
for the oppressed:
which giveth food
to the hungry.
The Lord looseth
the prisoners:

8 The Lord
openeth the eyes
of the blind:
the Lord raiseth them
that are bowed down:
the Lord loveth
the righteous:

9 The Lord preserveth
the strangers;
he relieveth
the fatherless
and widow:
but the way of the wicked
he turneth upside down.

10 The Lord shall reign
for ever,
even thy God,
O Zion,
unto all generations.
Praise ye the Lord.

102
1 Hear my prayer,
O Lord,
and let my cry
come unto thee.

2 Hide not thy face
from me
in the day
when I am in trouble;
incline thine ear
unto me:
in the day
when I call
answer me
speedily.

3 For my days
are consumed like smoke,
and my bones
are burned as an hearth.

4 My heart
is smitten,
and withered
like grass;
so that
I forget to eat my bread.

5 By reason
of the voice of my groaning
my bones cleave
to my skin.

6 I am like a pelican
of the wilderness:
I am like an owl
of the desert.

7 I watch,
and am as a sparrow
alone
upon the house top.

8 Mine enemies
reproach me
all the day;
and they
that are mad against me
are sworn against me.

9 For I have eaten ashes
like bread,
and mingled my drink
with weeping.

10 Because of thine indignation
and thy wrath:
for thou hast lifted me up,
and cast me down.

11 My days
are like a shadow
that declineth;
and I am withered
like grass.

12 But thou,
O Lord,
shall endure for ever;
and thy remembrance
unto all generations.

13 Thou shalt arise,
and have mercy upon Zion:
for the time to favor her,
yea,
the set time, is come.

14 For thy servants
take pleasure
in her stones,
and favor
the dust thereof.

15 So the heathen
shall fear
the name of the Lord,
and all the kings
of the earth thy glory.

16 When the Lord
shall build up Zion,
he shall appear
in his glory.

17 He will regard
the prayer
of the destitute,
and not despise
their prayer.

18 This shall be written
for the generation to come:
and the people
which shall be created
shall praise the Lord.

19 For he hath looked down
from the height
of his sanctuary;
from heaven
did the Lord
behold the earth;

20 To hear the groaning
of the prisoner;
to loose
those
that are appointed to death;

21 To declare
the name of the Lord
in Zion,
and his praise
in Jerusalem;

22 When the people
are gathered together,
and the kingdoms,
to serve the Lord.

23 He weakened
my strength
in the way;
he shortened my days.

24 I said,
O my God,
take me not away
in the midst of my days:
thy years are throughout
all generations.

25 Of old hast
thou laid the foundation
of the earth:
and the heavens
are the work
of thy hands.

26 They shall perish,
but thou shalt endure:
yea,
all of them shall wax old
like a garment;
as a vesture
shalt thou change them,
and they shall be changed:

27 But thou
art the same,
and thy years
shall have no end.

28 The children
of thy servants
shall continue,
and their seed
shall be established
before thee.

133
1 Behold,
how good
and how pleasant
it is
for brethren
to dwell together
in unity!

2 It is like
the precious ointment
upon the head,
that ran down upon the beard,
even Aaron's beard:
that went down
to the skirts
of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon,
and as the dew
that descended
upon the mountains of Zion:
for there
the Lord commanded
the blessing,
even life for
evermore.

1 Samuel 1:21-2:11

21 And the man Elkanah,
and all his house,
went up
to offer
unto the Lord
the yearly sacrifice,
and his vow.

22 But Hannah
went not up;
for she said
unto her husband,
I will not go up
until the child be weaned,
and then I will bring him,
that he may appear
before the Lord,
and there abide for ever.

23 And Elkanah
her husband
said unto her,
Do what seemeth thee good;
tarry until thou have weaned him;
only the Lord establish his word.
So the woman abode,
and gave her son suck
until she weaned him.

24 And when she had weaned him,
she took him up with her,
with three bullocks,
and one ephah of flour,
and a bottle of wine,
and brought him
unto the house
of the Lord in Shiloh:
and the child was young.

25 And they slew a bullock,
and brought the child to Eli.

26 And she said,
Oh my lord,
as thy soul liveth,
my lord,
I am the woman
that stood by thee here,
praying unto the Lord.

27 For this child
I prayed;
and the Lord hath given me
my petition
which I asked of him:

28 Therefore also
I have lent him to the Lord;
as long as he liveth
he shall be lent to the Lord.
And he worshipped the Lord there.

2 And Hannah prayed,
and said,
My heart rejoiceth
in the Lord,
mine horn is exalted
in the Lord:
my mouth is enlarged
over mine enemies;
because I rejoice
in thy salvation.

2 There is none holy
as the Lord:
for there is none beside thee:
neither is there any rock
like our God.

3 Talk no more
so exceeding proudly;
let not arrogancy
come out of your mouth:
for the Lord
is a God of knowledge,
and by him actions
are weighed.

4 The bows
of the mighty men
are broken,
and they that stumbled
are girded
with strength.

5 They that were full
have hired out themselves
for bread;
and they
that were hungry ceased:
so that the barren
hath born seven;
and she
that hath many children
is waxed feeble.

6 The Lord killeth,
and maketh alive:
he bringeth down
to the grave,
and bringeth up.

7 The Lord
maketh poor,
and maketh rich:
he bringeth low,
and lifteth up.

8 He raiseth
up the poor
out of the dust,
and lifteth up
the beggar
from the dunghill,
to set them
among princes,
and to make them inherit
the throne of glory:
for the pillars
of the earth
are the Lord's,
and he hath set the world
upon them.

9 He will keep
the feet of his saints,
and the wicked
shall be silent in darkness;
for by strength
shall no man prevail.

10 The adversaries
of the Lord
shall be broken to pieces;
out of heaven
shall he thunder
upon them:
the Lord shall judge
the ends of the earth;
and he shall give strength
unto his king,
and exalt
the horn
of his anointed.

11 And Elkanah
went to Ramah
to his house.
And the child did minister
unto the Lord
before Eli the priest.

Acts 1:15-26

15 And in those days
Peter stood up
in the midst
of the disciples,
and said,
(the number of names together
were about an hundred and twenty,)

16 Men and brethren,
this scripture
must needs have been fulfilled,
which the Holy Ghost
by the mouth of David
spake before
concerning Judas,
which was guide
to them
that took Jesus.

17 For he was numbered
with us,
and had obtained part
of this ministry.

18 Now this man
purchased a field
with the reward
of iniquity;
and falling headlong,
he burst asunder
in the midst,
and all his bowels
gushed out.

19 And it was known
unto all the dwellers
at Jerusalem;
insomuch as that field
is called
in their proper tongue,
Aceldama,
that is to say,
The field of blood.

20 For it is written
in the book of Psalms,
Let his habitation
be desolate,
and let no man
dwell therein:
and his bishoprick
let another take.

21 Wherefore of these men
which have companied
with us all the time
that the Lord Jesus
went in
and out among us,

22 Beginning
from the baptism
of John,
unto that same day
that he was taken up
from us,
must one be ordained
to be a witness
with us
of his resurrection.

23 And they appointed two,
Joseph
called Barsabas,
who was surnamed Justus,
and Matthias.

24 And they prayed,
and said,
Thou,
Lord,
which knowest the hearts
of all men,
shew whether
of these two
thou hast chosen,

25 That he may take part
of this ministry
and apostleship,
from which Judas
by transgression fell,
that he might go
to his own place.

26 And they gave forth
their lots;
and the lot fell upon Matthias;
and he was numbered
with the eleven apostles.

Luke 20:19-26

19 And the chief priests
and the scribes
the same hour
sought to lay hands
on him;
and they feared the people:
for they perceived
that he had spoken
this parable
against them.

20 And they watched him,
and sent forth spies,
which should feign themselves
just men,
that they might take hold
of his words,
that so they might deliver him
unto the power
and authority
of the governor.

21 And they asked him,
saying,
Master,
we know that thou sayest
and teachest rightly,
neither acceptest thou
the person of any,
but teachest
the way of God truly:

22 Is it lawful
for us
to give tribute
unto Caesar,
or no?

23 But he perceived
their craftiness,
and said unto them,
Why tempt ye me?

24 Shew me a penny.
Whose image
and superscription
hath it?
They answered and said,
Caesar's.

25 And he said unto them,
Render therefore unto Caesar
the things which be Caesar's,
and unto God
the things which be God's.

26 And they could not
take hold of his words
before the people:
and they marveled
at his answer,
and held their peace.

Psalms 5; 145; 82; 29

5
1 Give ear
to my words,
O Lord,
consider
my meditation.

2 Hearken
unto the voice of my cry,
my King,
and my God:
for unto thee
will I pray.

3 My voice
shalt thou hear in the morning,
O Lord;
in the morning
will I direct my prayer
unto thee,
and will look up.

4 For thou art not a God
that hath pleasure in wickedness:
neither shall evil
dwell with thee.

5 The foolish
shall not stand in thy sight:
thou hatest
all workers of iniquity.

6 Thou shalt destroy them
that speak leasing:
the Lord will abhor the bloody
and deceitful man.

7 But as for me,
I will come into thy house
in the multitude
of thy mercy:
and in thy fear will I worship
toward thy holy temple.

8 Lead me,
O Lord,
in thy righteousness
because of mine enemies;
make thy way straight
before my face.

9 For there is no faithfulness
in their mouth;
their inward part
is very wickedness;
their throat
is an open sepulcher;
they flatter
with their tongue.

10 Destroy thou them,
O God;
let them fall
by their own counsels;
cast them out
in the multitude
of their transgressions;
for they have rebelled
against thee.

11 But let all those
that put their trust in thee
rejoice:
let them
ever shout for joy,
because thou defendest them:
let them also
that love thy name
be joyful in thee.

12 For thou,
Lord,
wilt bless the righteous;
with favor
wilt thou compass him
as with a shield.

145
1 I will extol thee,
my God,
O king;
and I will bless thy name
for ever and ever.

2 Every day
will I bless thee;
and I will praise thy name
for ever and ever.

3 Great is the Lord,
and greatly to be praised;
and his greatness
is unsearchable.

4 One generation
shall praise thy works
to another,
and shall declare
thy mighty acts.

5 I will speak
of the glorious honour
of thy majesty,
and of thy wondrous works.

6 And men shall speak
of the might
of thy terrible acts:
and I will declare
thy greatness.

7 They shall abundantly utter
the memory
of thy great goodness,
and shall sing
of thy righteousness.

8 The Lord is gracious,
and full of compassion;
slow to anger,
and of great mercy.

9 The Lord
is good to all:
and his tender mercies
are over all his works.

10 All thy works
shall praise thee,
O Lord;
and thy saints

shall bless thee.

11 They shall speak
of the glory
of thy kingdom,
and talk of thy power;

12 To make known
to the sons of men
his mighty acts,
and the glorious majesty
of his kingdom.

13 Thy kingdom
is an everlasting kingdom,
and thy dominion
endureth
throughout all generations.

14 The Lord upholdeth
all that fall,
and raiseth up
all those
that be bowed down.

15 The eyes of all
wait upon thee;
and thou givest them
their meat in due season.

16 Thou openest thine hand,
and satisfiest the desire
of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous
in all his ways,
and holy
in all his works.

18 The Lord is nigh
unto all them
that call upon him,
to all that call upon him
in truth.

19 He will fulfill the desire
of them that fear him:
he also will hear their cry,
and will save them.

20 The Lord preserveth
all them
that love him:
but all the wicked
will he destroy.

21 My mouth
shall speak the praise
of the Lord:
and let all flesh
bless his holy name
for ever and ever.

82
1 God standeth
in the congregation
of the mighty;
he judgeth
among the gods.

2 How long
will ye judge unjustly,
and accept the persons
of the wicked?
Selah.

3 Defend
the poor
and fatherless:
do justice
to the afflicted
and needy.

4 Deliver
the poor
and needy:
rid them
out of the hand
of the wicked.

5 They know not,
neither will they understand;
they walk on
in darkness:
all the foundations
of the earth
are out of course.

6 I have said,
Ye are gods;
and all of you
are children of the most High.

7 But ye shall die
like men,
and fall
like one of the princes.

8 Arise,
O God,
judge the earth:
for thou shalt inherit
all nations.

29
1 Give unto the Lord,
O ye mighty,
give unto the Lord
glory
and strength.

2 Give unto the Lord
the glory
due unto his name;
worship the Lord
in the beauty of holiness.

3 The voice
of the Lord
is upon the waters:
the God of glory
thundereth:
the Lord
is upon many waters.

4 The voice
of the Lord
is powerful;
the voice
of the Lord
is full of majesty.

5 The voice
of the Lord
breaketh the cedars;
yea,
the Lord
breaketh the cedars
of Lebanon.

6 He maketh them also
to skip like a calf;
Lebanon
and Sirion
like a young unicorn.

7 The voice
of the Lord
divideth
the flames of fire.

8 The voice
of the Lord
shaketh the wilderness;
the Lord shaketh
the wilderness of Kadesh.

9 The voice
of the Lord
maketh the hinds
to calve,
and discovereth
the forests:
and in his temple
doth every one speak
of his glory.

10 The Lord
sitteth upon the flood;
yea,
the Lord sitteth King
for ever.

11 The Lord
will give strength
unto his people;
the Lord
will bless his people
with peace.

1 Samuel 1:1-20

1 Now there was a certain man
of Ramathaimzophim,
of mount Ephraim,
and his name was Elkanah,
the son of Jeroham,
the son of Elihu,
the son of Tohu,
the son of Zuph,
an Ephrathite:

2 And he had two wives;
the name of the one was Hannah,
and the name of the other Peninnah:
and Peninnah had children,
but Hannah
had no children.

3 And this man
went up out of his city
yearly
to worship
and to sacrifice
unto the Lord of hosts
in Shiloh.
And the two sons of Eli,
Hophni
and Phinehas,
the priests of the Lord,
were there.

4 And when the time was
that Elkanah offered,
he gave to Peninnah his wife,
and to all her sons
and her daughters,
portions:

5 But unto Hannah
he gave a worthy portion;
for he loved Hannah:
but the Lord
had shut up her womb.

6 And her adversary also
provoked her sore,
for to make her fret,
because the Lord
had shut up her womb.

7 And as he did so
year by year,
when she went up
to the house of the Lord,
so she provoked her;
therefore she wept,
and did not eat.

8 Then said
Elkanah
her husband
to her,
Hannah,
why weepest thou?
and why eatest thou not?
and why is thy heart grieved?
am not I better to thee
than ten sons?

9 So Hannah rose up
after they had eaten
in Shiloh,
and after they had drunk.
Now Eli
the priest
sat upon a seat
by a post
of the temple
of the Lord.

10 And she was in bitterness of soul,
and prayed unto the Lord,
and wept sore.

11 And she vowed a vow,
and said,
O Lord of hosts,
if thou wilt indeed
look on the affliction
of thine handmaid,
and remember me,
and not forget thine handmaid,
but wilt give unto thine handmaid
a man child,
then I will give him
unto the Lord
all the days of his life,
and there shall no razor
come upon his head.

12 And it came to pass,
as she continued praying
before the Lord,
that Eli marked her mouth.

13 Now Hannah,
she spake in her heart;
only her lips moved,
but her voice was not heard:
therefore Eli
thought she had been drunken.

14 And Eli said unto her,
How long wilt thou be drunken?
put away thy wine from thee.

15 And Hannah answered and said,
No,
my lord,
I am a woman
of a sorrowful spirit:
I have drunk neither wine
nor strong drink,
but have poured out my soul
before the Lord.

16 Count not thine handmaid
for a daughter of Belial:
for out of the abundance
of my complaint
and grief have I spoken hitherto.

17 Then Eli answered and said,
Go in peace:
and the God of Israel
grant thee thy petition
that thou hast asked of him.

18 And she said,
Let thine handmaid
find grace in thy sight.
So the woman went her way,
and did eat,
and her countenance
was no more sad.

19 And they rose up
in the morning early,
and worshipped before the Lord,
and returned,
and came to their house
to Ramah:
and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife;
and the Lord remembered her.

20 Wherefore it came to pass,
when the time was come about
after Hannah had conceived,
that she bare a son,
and called his name Samuel,
saying,
Because I have asked him
of the Lord.

Acts 1:1-14

1 The former treatise
have I made,
O Theophilus,
of all that Jesus
began both
to do
and teach,

2 Until the day
in which he was taken up,
after that he
through the Holy Ghost
had given commandments
unto the apostles
whom he had chosen:

3 To whom also
he shewed himself alive
after his passion
by many infallible proofs,
being seen of them
forty days,
and speaking
of the things
pertaining
to the kingdom of God:

4 And,
being assembled together
with them,
commanded them
that they should not depart
from Jerusalem,
but wait
for the promise of the Father,
which,
saith he,
ye have heard of me.

5 For John
truly baptized
with water;
but ye shall be baptized
with the Holy Ghost
not many days hence.

6 When they therefore
were come together,
they asked of him,
saying, Lord,
wilt thou
at this time
restore again
the kingdom
to Israel?

7 And he said unto them,
It is not for you
to know the times
or the seasons,
which the Father
hath put in his own power.

8 But ye shall receive power,
after that the Holy Ghost
is come upon you:
and ye shall be witnesses
unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judaea,
and in Samaria,
and unto the uttermost part
of the earth.

9 And when
he had spoken these things,
while they beheld,
he was taken up;
and a cloud received him
out of their sight.

10 And while they looked
stedfastly toward heaven
as he went up,
behold,
two men stood
by them in white apparel;

11 Which also said,
Ye men of Galilee,
why stand ye gazing up
into heaven?
this same Jesus,
which is taken up
from you
into heaven,
shall so come
in like manner
as ye have seen him go
into heaven.

12 Then returned they
unto Jerusalem
from the mount called Olivet,
which is from Jerusalem
a sabbath day's journey.

13 And when they were come in,
they went up into an upper room,
where abode both Peter,
and James,
and John,
and Andrew,
Philip,
and Thomas,
Bartholomew,
and Matthew,
James the son of Alphaeus,
and Simon Zelotes,
and Judas
the brother of James.

14 These all continued
with one accord
in prayer
and supplication,
with the women,
and Mary
the mother of Jesus,
and with his brethren.

Luke 20:9-19

9 Then began he
to speak
to the people
this parable;
A certain man
planted a vineyard,
and let it forth
to husbandmen,
and went into a far country
for a long time.

10 And at the season
he sent a servant
to the husbandmen,
that they should give him
of the fruit
of the vineyard:
but the husbandmen beat him,
and sent him away empty.

11 And again
he sent another servant:
and they beat him also,
and entreated him shamefully,
and sent him away empty.

12 And again he sent a third:
and they wounded him also,
and cast him out.

13 Then said the lord
of the vineyard,
What shall I do?
I will send my beloved son:
it may be they will reverence him
when they see him.

14 But when the husbandmen
saw him,
they reasoned among themselves,
saying,
This is the heir:
come,
let us kill him,
that the inheritance
may be ours.

15 So they cast him out
of the vineyard,
and killed him.
What therefore shall the lord
of the vineyard do
unto them?

16 He shall come
and destroy
these husbandmen,
and shall give the vineyard
to others.
And when they heard it,
they said,
God forbid.

17 And he beheld them,
and said,
What is this then
that is written,
The stone
which the builders rejected,
the same is become
the head of the corner?

18 Whosoever shall fall
upon that stone
shall be broken;
but on whomsoever
it shall fall,
it will grind him to powder.

19 And the chief priests
and the scribes
the same hour
sought to lay hands on him;
and they feared the people:
for they perceived
that he had spoken
this parable
against them.
